New race track taking shape in Mason County | Business

The new auto racing track on Eells Hill Road near Shelton is taking shape.

Over the past few weeks, crews cleared a major hurdle – paving the track before wet weather sets in.

The facility called The Ridge Motorsports Park features a 2.5-mile road course and a quarter-mile drag strip.

It will host drag races, hybrid racing, motorcycle road races in addition to car and kart road races.

The 170-acre facility will also have garages for customer cars.

More than a hundred people attended a Mason County Commission hearing back in April to voice support for a special use permit needed to construct the race track.

Some said the new track will create noise and traffic problems, but the county approved the permit.

Supporters are hoping the speedway will stimulate the county’s economy and tourism industry.
